James Turrell Celestial Vault at Kijkduin

In 1996 Stroom: the contemporary arts centre in Den Haag commissioned this permanent sculpture in public space; the crater shaped space being the centre of the work. The centre holds a simple and classic viewing platform, lying back on this bench you experience the sky like a dome. A place to gaze at the sky like it were a vault.

Celestial Vault is not a tourist attraction as such, most often it is completely deserted. You therefore get your own private sculpture which certainly adds to this meditative experience.

Lola Bikes & Coffee

Today I met Lola, I had been eyeing on her for a while; driving my still shitty bike past the storefront excited to see what was going to happen inside. The Lola-crew is still test-driving and will have an semi-official opening still ahead. For now the coffee taste good, the sweets were sweet, the bikes look great. I managed to snap up 2 coffee but had no chance to take a bike home unfortunately..  I'm sure in no time Lola will be a full-packed hangout. I wanted to speak to the (superfriendly) owner today about this project but he was already too busy with pumping tires, fixing bikes and fixing coffees. I will be back though.

ClublePop during Museumnight Rotterdam

ClublePOP volledig in huisstijl in Blaak 10

Tijdens de Museumnacht (za 10 Maart) komt het complete collectief van ClublePOP bij elkaar. Dat is dus niet enkel die doorgedraaide hoofden van de dj’s, maar ook de creatieve geesten die verantwoordelijk zijn voor de ‘look & feel’ van ClublePOP; Arjen de Jong, Dunya Steyns en Nelleke Boerkool. Zij zullen een deel van Blaak 10 omtoveren tot een visueel bombardement van ClublePOP images, icons, quotes, feelings and dramas.

Programma Blaak 10 met ClublePOP & Catering

Come and get a taste what’s in store at Blaak 10. Groenten die normaliter niet in de schappen liggen, worden verwerkt in de meest uiteenlopende gerechten. Cateringa zal een grote keukeninstallatie bouwen waar deze ‘kneusjes’ tot smaaksensaties worden omgebouwd. Ombouwen doen de jongens en meisjes van ClublePOP ook. Al 5 jaar lang leven zij in hun eigen wereld waar Brigitte Bardot, Tom Zé, Morrissey en Serge Gainsbourg actuelere helden zijn dan de zogenaamde sterren van nu. Deze wereld wordt door pretty boy Arjen de Jong en femmes fatales Dunya Steyns en Nelleke Boerkool tot leven gewekt met een collage aan zeefdrukken, stencilwerk, taping en illustraties.

O ja, en natuurlijk de gehele avond de exquise pop van ClublePOP, je weet wel in de geest van ‘route du sud dans l’hiver, een gebreide etui voor je laptop, al je platen op psychologische volgorde en nog veel meer van dat soort smaakvolle zaken.

or the other way around, Monica Bonvicini's:  She Lies (2007) off the shore off Oslo in front of the Opera House inspired by Caspar David Friedrich's:  Das Eismeer (1823-1824) housed in Hamburg's Kunsthalle. 


The synthesis of structure/skin/ornament explore the interface between nature and culture, or that of a cultural artefact. While reconstructing a famous Romantic painting, the work represents in a visual striking way the shape of an iceberg, as if one would have, by circumstances due to the global warming, ended up in the fjord in front of the opera house
