Common in Helsinki

In Helsinki I stumbled upon Common; a shop showcasing Japanese design. The simplicity of shape and quality of make blend well between Scandinavian and Japanese design traditions. And so I left the shop with a little bought something and a lot of want-to-buy.

Wanha Kaarle in Helsinki

Not if but When you are in Helsinki, you should do yourself the pleasure of visiting Wanha Kaarle's vintage paradise. In the younger Kalio district this is the most unique shop of vintage finnish design. Here you will find many enamel Seppo Mallat pans and pots for Arabia/ Finel as well as not so common items of iittala glassware.

Paapje

A while ago I read an article about Paapje, and therefore today I was delighted to find a store which carried their fabrics. I would consider this to be Dutch heritage. Wonderful handprinted fabrics in mostly amazing indigo. They make very useful patterns for anything fabric related in the interior. The fabrics I bought will soon enter a new life as pillow cases. In 2009 this old company was bought by Carolien Huizinga & Olaf Klaassen, who run the company today. I am most certainly hoping to be seeing a bit more of this in the future.
