Dearhunter is the moniker for Hanneke van Leeuwens' creative endeavors. She is an accessories designer, illustrator and vintage shopkeeper in Rotterdam. 

Dearhunter Vintage is the latest under the label, a unique vintage store with a quirky style. A visit to Dearhunter Vintage is always a welcoming experience. The brightly lit shop is conveniently located around the corner from Witte de Withstraat, just a stone's throw away from the museums overlooking a lovely stretch of water.

Rotterdam-based artists, musicians and designers have all found their way to this shop as well as many passers-by, bands on tour and style-savvy travellers.

Henrik Vibskov and Nordic Design Today exhibition

I think everybody knows how much I love Henrik Vibskov.
To see his work as part of an exhibition or as a piece of art is always a surprise.  The installation as part of the exhibition Nordic Design Today,  which opened on march 12th at the Icelandic Museum of Design definitely did not disappoint. The bonus was to see some pieces that I actually own here as well. 

The exhibition presents six of the most significant designers of our time in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. All of them have been awarded the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg s Prize the largest design prize of its kind in the world. The designers are: Front, Harri Koskinen, Henrik Vibskov, Sigurd Bronger, Sigurður Gústafsson and Steinunn Sigurdardóttir. The exhibition is brought to Iceland in collaboration with The Iceland Design Center and with support from Eimskip.

Teddy girls (also known as Judies) choice of clothes wasn’t only for aesthetic effect: these girls were collectively rejecting post-war austerity. They were young working-class women, often from Irish immigrant families who had settled in the poorer districts of London — Walthamstow, Poplar and North Kensington. They would typically leave school at the age of 14 or 15, and work in factories or offices. Teddy Girls spent much of their free time buying or making their trademark clothes. It was a head-turning, fastidious style from the fashion houses, which had launched haute-couture clothing lines realling the Edwardian era.

It should not be necessary to add that this is rumored to be the house of Nina Persson if it were not for the fact that this only underlines her sense of style. The woman whose portrait I took to the hairdressers in the mid ninetees, not to speak of what she does best: play some good tunes with the Cardigans or A Camp. And then last year she designed a nice collection for Swedish clothing brand Hope all based on the content of her own closet.
