Realistic With a Raw Edge.

At first the images might appear sweet, but if you are willing to look further you’ll find Robin Duister's work is not as carefree as it might appear on first sight. It combines contemporary imagary with a large amount of glam and trash, a.o. inspired by pop and youth culture.

Moon in Tallinn

New Nordic cuisine

a hot thing for food-lovers, a problem for those on a budget.
Not anymore...

Tallinn, in the Baltic, also has some lovely New Nordic food on offer and a lot more friendly in price then what you know off.

I enjoyed a lovely lunch at Kohvik Moon, which means as much as Poppy in Estonian. Simple, honest, sincere is what they strive for, and what they deliver. Booking is absolutely necessary as the charm of this place and high quality of food has not gone unnoticed.

The Village Coffee & Music

I recently had a little sunday afternoon tradition going on, visiting the bearded baristas at the Village on the day of peace, calm, rest and thought. Wow for some reflection.
This it what it should be like always and everywhere. Quel vibe..
The atmosphere reminded me of those cold days in Groningen during Eurosonic, trying to grab some food and cafeïne whilst preparing for another night. Of late weekend afternoon gatherings during all those weekends in London. Of the laid-back hang-on-the sofa with your soy-latte in Reykjavik.

And now I found the Village a coffeebar that mixes pure coffee-making with The gettogether vibe and some music on the side. Sweets are on the menu and you are welcome to bring your own savouries (get them next door at the supermarket and save the money for that extra shot of cafeïne)

Shaking the Habitual

Music can be so meaningless. We had to find lust. We asked our friends and lovers to help us.

Pale Fire in Paradiso

With Pale Fire Sarah Assbring releases her forth studio album as El Perro Del Mar. One of the records I am sure will be talked about this year, if it were only by me. A lovely ode to the best of the nineties, but that does not completely do Pale Fire justice as it is so much more, much more layered. Somewhat surprising this Gothenburg siren has never been so much in the public eye. The turnout to her Paradiso Amsterdam gig was relatively low. The performance was mersmeric and luckily included a melodica and 'Change of Heart' in a Pale Fire-ish coat. After Pale Fire Sarah will soon expect another release; thumbs up for 7 months pregnant touring.

"In this world, you think you have no reason to believe in love or in anything much. Then one day, when you least expect it, a light appears on the far hori- zon. It's a flickering light, begging you to come, telling you to stay away. It's the pale fire. The promise of love and hope - all consuming and elusive. Yet for a moment, it brings clarity in the darkness, future to the ruins and power to the fight."

Amie Dicke - Afterimage - GEM

Well worth a visit. Amie has shown some interesting and unique views towards Image, the way we perceive this and how this settles in our minds. What is forgotten, what is vanished, what is kept? The gold dots around may bring some unexpected happy moments but are actually bits of emergency blankets tucked into the holes left after the previous exhibition in GEM. Freunde von Freunde visited her home and studio a while ago.  See it here.
